There are many caves and potholes (karst shafts) scattered around at various locations within the greater depression of the Fatničko Karst Polje.
The vertical "jamas" are mostly situated on or above the main karst terrace or "zaravan" or its residual areas, at or around the ca. 600m.asl. contour (2165 feet.) above the polje-floor level, and repesent fossil ponors. Much of the "zaravan" area is comparatively unexplored in terms of modern-day methods of exploration. We now give some details of the most well-known caves and karst pits..

11.1.1.  LOCATION :

This is located in the Lower Polje area near and south of Velika Pećina.

11.1.2.  DESCRIPTION :
It is hydrologically active and contains lakes and syphons and many areas well decorated with sinter deposits.

11.2.1.  LOCATION :

This is located on the "Ljut" section of the residual corrosional plateau, just beyond the north-west extremity of Fatničko Polje, to the north of Selo Divin, on the left side of the main road.

This is located on the limestone plateau ridge between the Fatničko and Dabarsko Polja and is at an approximate elevation of 660m asl. (2165 feet.)
11.4.2.  DESCRIPTION :
This karst shaft is another old ponor, of which we currently have no information.

This is located high up on the limestone cliffs above Fatnica Village at an approximate elevation of 850m asl. (2789 feet.)

11.6.1.  LOCATION :
[GPS Identifiers :  not known.]
The entrance to this long cave system is 4m above the polje-floor in the north-west of the polje at an elevation of 475m asl. (1558 feet.).
11.6.2.  DESCRIPTION :
Its length is reportedly to be in the order of 2,800m with additional side passages, all of which penetrate the depths of the karst ridge or barrier "Ljut" separating Fatničko Polje from Dabarsko Polje. The morphology of the cave would suggest that it formed along structural geological pre-dispositions.

11.7.1.  LOCATION :
[GPS Identifiers :  not known.]
This is located on the limestone plateau between the Fatničko and Dabarsko Polja near Selo Batinići and is at an approximate elevation of 625m asl. (2051 feet.)
11.7.2.  DESCRIPTION :
This karst shaft is an old ponor. Ržehak reports in 1962 that the "Speleološko Društvo NRBiH" explored it in 1956 and again in 1957. He reports again in 1965 that its depth is -112m. It is currently explored to a depth of -200m. and would appear to be an abandoned upper part of Velika Pećina.
